Trying Vs. Committing by Jim Self and Roxane Burnett

Ms. X is a single mom with three kids, an irregular job situation, and friends and clients who frequently demand her attention. When I asked Ms. X if she had completed the homework that included sitting down to reach a quiet inner calm, she answered, "Roxane - I'm trying." She then told me she was committed to reaching her goals of inner peace and business success, and she knew she must maintain balanced calm to do so. She also explained why it just wasn't possible, how difficult it was for her and how she just couldn't do it "right."
We are always committed to something. There is never, ever a time when we aren't committed. Even when we are lying on the sofa, watching a movie, we are actually doing something and committed to it. Perhaps we are committed to physical rest and rejuvenation, or perhaps we are committed to our failure. What I mean by that is behind every action or inaction there is a commitment to an Unconscious Desire (UD).

Consider this: You have an important interview with someone who could, if all goes well, boost your career and your finances. You've scheduled the appointment for Monday morning at 9am so you could have the weekend to prepare. "I'll focus on this when the kids don't need me this weekend." Well, this is the weekend the kids have three soccer matches and both of your dogs need bathing. Plus your friend (who always sympathizes with your struggles) calls to tell you her husband left her. By Sunday night you're exhausted and all you want to do is zone-out in front of TiVo. After a short night's sleep and rushing the kids to school, you sit in the car, making notes of what you'd like to achieve in the interview. Of course, the interview doesn't accomplish what you wanted, but you tried and you're worn-out to prove it.
In this scenario, what Unconscious Desire would you be committed to? You might be committed to the UD of keeping your life running in the familiar loop of personal and financial chaos. Perhaps you're committed to proving you have "too much on your plate" or that "single moms must struggle." There is incredible power in being honest with yourself and discovering why you do what you do. This knowledge is the key to living a powerful, peaceful, fulfilling life, instead if living a life of victimhood and struggle.
With a little help, Ms. X eventually understood what she was creating with this unfocused attention. She also designed a workable structure for herself that organized her personal and business life. She is now making progress on attracting more clients and greater peace of mind. Even her weekends are getting more balanced between soccer, dogs and study.
Self-Coaching Identify an area where you've been trying for some time to produce a result but haven't yet. You see, trying leaves the back door open for escape. As long as you are trying to do it, you aren't committed to it and your UD has control over you. Even if you can't exactly verbalize the full UD, just identify the area of trying. The next step is to put a structure in place that will begin to bring you success. Here's a suggestion: Rephrase your intention. In the above example, Ms. X began the weekend with the intention of "I'll work when the kids don't need me." Rephrase this as "I will work Saturday and Sunday from 7-10pm when the kids are in their rooms and from 8-11am, before their games." Another example: If you say you're committed to being on time, yet are always late, you're trying. If you're committed, you will put in place a structure to get yourself there on time. (You will find a reminder system, get there early, schedule your time differently, etc.)

Currently the best known means of fighting fires and extinguishing them in small numbers is to launch water or foam at them and rob them of their fuel supply. But what if you were in a place where shooting water and foam weren't a possibility? The question has plagued insurance companies weighing the cost of deterrent and the cost of the fires themselves for years. And now a system developed by scientists at Harvard University uses a similar principle to sculpt and actually extinguish flames. The new technology could one day be used by firefighters to extinguish fires around the world.

Firefighters currently have to depend on water to apply to the fuel source of flames. The water, as the theory goes, robs the flames of the necessary elements for them to continue burning. And as a result, these flames are extinguished. But backpacks containing generators that fire electrical beams at flames could one day extinguish them without the use of water. Wikus van de Merwe has been using electricity to not only sculpt flames around in different shapes, but also to extinguish them. The electrical field charges the soot and makes the fire more unstable in areas where it is being fired. This has the result of extinguishing the flames if deployed in a powerful burst.

But in addition to electrical backpacks being incredibly expensive and unnecessarily technical, the technology could in this current model be dangerous to people as well. Electricity is, after-all an extremely dangerous thing. And if electricity is powerful enough to extinguish flame, it may be powerful enough to kill us. Did we mention the technology was being funded by DARPA?

But if placed in certain areas, the extinguishers could prove extremely helpful. In an aircraft with an interior fire in a place difficult for impromptu firefighters to reach, but also in an area where foam and water would be impacting precious internal components, the electrical field could be installed ahead of time to emit a pulse that suppressed the flames and put them out. After a few lives saved using this method, they may one day become mandatory as little boxes - sentinels that assure us our equipment will not overheat and result in dangerous explosions. Another interesting question would be if the fields themselves acted as an ignition source for things like fuel. One of the problems with fighting fuel fires currently is that water would inevitably contaminate the fuels which would be a problem in vehicles needing that fuel to get them to safety. If the system in its current or some future generation were able to extinguish flames from fuel fires without further igniting the fuel, it may be used in fuel tanks as well.

And in some distant future we may see firefighters using only electricity to extinguish flames, driving massive trucks with fire hoses that launch great streams of electricity instead of water. Of course before that happened, we would have to develop a means to protect the occupants of the building as well from the electricity which could completely destroy a human body. Wikus van de Merwe demonstrated the dangers after exploding a prawn with the energy beam (against his better wishes).

As you continue to stride forward towards your awakening from the illusion, do not fail to remember that you are constantly embraced by the ever-intensifying divine energy surrounding and enveloping Planet Earth at this most exciting time. You are God’s beloved children, infinitely loved and cared for in every moment of your eternal existence, and consequently you will awaken as divinely intended.

The light you are bearing, as you make your way Homewards, is stunningly brilliant, and affects everyone with whom you interact, causing their interactions with others to grow brighter.  This enlightening of humanity is proceeding apace because it is your will, along with the divine Will, that it should do so.  Your task is to become enlightened, as is indeed happening, and to assist others to do the same.  And you are succeeding magnificently because no other outcome is even remotely possible for the children of God.

Becoming truly aware that you are God’s children is, of course, another aspect of the awakening process — one which is presently being addressed.  As you start to realize and understand this, it becomes blatantly obvious that the only way to treat others is with love, compassion, and the utmost respect.  How else could you possibly treat a perfect child of your divine Creator?

As you can see, more and more of you are doing this, and it has a ripple effect, spreading outwards in increasingly large circles of influence from those who lovingly accept all with whom they come in contact, and then mingling and melding with all the ripples flowing out from others who behave in the same manner.  This display of brilliantly shimmering fields of love rippling out amongst humanity is quite glorious to behold.
Not one person on the planet can avoid being caught up in and strongly influenced by the ripple effect as it washes so gently and yet so powerfully and inevitably over everyone in its path.  And everyone is in its path; there is nowhere on earth where it can be avoided, because it can and will penetrate every area of the planet with the most wonderful consequences for all of you.

Humanity’s joy and happiness is divinely assured because your awakening is inevitable.  And to be awake in the glorious brilliance of God’s divine Light is ecstatically enlivening and creatively enthralling.  You are to experience existence in a form that is way beyond your abilities to imagine or comprehend.  It is the form of existence God created you to experience and enjoy eternally, because He created you to be blissful and your bliss delights Him.

Release your doubts and your fears about eternal heavenly existence, as they slow down your awakening process, which is pointless and just causes you unnecessary suffering of which you have already had far too much.  Rejoice in the certainty that you are divine beings returning Home to your Father’s heavenly domains where doubt, anxiety, fear, or suffering of any kind is eternally impossible.  Continuously remind yourselves that a divine welcome awaits you.
