This weekend is important with a capital I, and in ways I don’t think any of us can fully comprehend.
A new lunar cycle began Saturday, July 30, and the Fifth Day of the Mayan Ninth Wave started today.
Within the year-long solar cycle, we’re crossing the mid-point between the June Solstice and September Equinox. The Lammas/Imbolc (Lughnasadh) gateway continues through August 7.

Here are some transitions we’re experiencing right now:
July 10-September 24 – Venus in the underworld
July 30 – Leo New Moon
July 31-August 17 – Day 5 of the Mayan Ninth Wave
August 1-7 – Lammas/Imbolc (Lughnasadh)
August 2-26 – Mercury retrograde
August 9-25 – Grand Cardinal Cross with Mars opposing Pluto, Uranus opposing Saturn
August 9 – Mars squares Uranus (exact)
August 10 – Mars opposes Pluto (exact)
August 12/13 – Aquarius/Leo Full Moon
August 16 – Venus-Mercury-Sun triple conjunction
August 18 – Fifth Night of the Mayan Ninth Wave begins
That’s a formidable line-up that speaks to the breakdown of existing order so that cosmic energies can flow, supporting the emergence of something new. Grace fuels the chaotic energies.
Meanwhile, three comets will be traversing our solar system over the next several months. Comets Elenin and Honda will easily be visible in the sky beginning as soon as mid-August. Although they’ll be millions of miles away from Earth, comets don’t often get this close or show up when so many other celestial rarities are also happening. I’m guessing it’s more than a coincidence.
There’s a whole lot of speculation going on in the blogosphere about what all this means and how it will play out. More Earth changes and further political and economic upheaval seem inevitable. Beyond that, I don’t entertain speculation or specific predictions.
I keep an eye on the celestial calendars and notice the natural rhythms of Earth and sky. Although realizations are spilling into my awareness these days like a rushing waterfall, I’ve learned not to jump to conclusions.
The Experience
At this point, I’m absolutely certain of one thing. No one knows what will happen next. We’re here to explore the mystery and shape the next world together through our actions and intent.
This is a co-creative process we’re experiencing individually and collectively. The more we honor the process without second-guessing it, the more rewarding the outcomes will be.
As we journey further into the Ninth Wave, the transformation becomes more intense. Perhaps the experience is highly individualized and dependent on our expectations of it.
For me, the transition from the Fourth Night to the Fifth Day was a completely different experience from previous passages within the Mayan Ninth Wave. It was a tumultuous night, and I had the visceral sense of a profound, soul-wrenching shift deep within my being.
I’d set strong intention for this new moon weekend, but I had no idea what the shift would feel like. It wasn’t the least bit comfortable. And I know it’s exactly what I requested. I can not continue to be who and how I’ve been if I’m going to actualize the potential for a life-changing, quantum evolutionary leap.
I’m reminded of the possibility inherent in the Mayan Ninth Wave. Unity consciousness is the human experience of divinity, of union with Divine Source. And from that yoga flows oneness with each other and all of creation.
That sounds so smooth and easy, yet the process is turning out to be anything but elegant. It’s intense, emotional, physically challenging and incredibly healing.
As we begin this next leg of the journey, I’m lighting a candle in vigil. My prayer is that each of us as individuals will rise to the possibility of embodying divinity in form, and that together we will craft a reality of oneness rooted in love and truth.

What do you want?
When we’re little, that’s what people are always asking, right? These days, the Universe is asking. And it’s waiting for your answer.
The cosmic force of creation needs you to focus the lens, to get clear on your vision, your dreams, your intent. You can take a giant step forward with whatever you want this weekend when three energetic gateways converge.
You can shoot for the mundane stuff, like a new car or a better job, maybe a date for Saturday night or someone to babysit your toddlers.
Or you can go for the gusto and tackle the big issues like getting free of addictions, ending (or beginning) relationships, turning your finances around, living your purpose or moving to a new location.
Why stop there? How about world peace, food for the hungry, shelter for the homeless and alternative energy sources that work?
Do you like the world we live in? Are you fed up with the violence, the greed and corruption, the injustice and insanity?
Do you dream of a more humanitarian world where every life matters, a world of hope and opportunity? Would you prefer to live on a just, nourishing, abundant, joyful and compassionate planet?
Are you tired of your life the way it’s been, your worn-out habits and the repetitive patterns you can’t seem to shake? Here’s your chance.
If you’re willing to participate in making the shift by changing yourself, you’ll start seeing progress quickly.
I’m not talking about chatting on Facebook, sitting around om-ing at peace meditations and love-ins or hoping so-called leaders will turn things around. I mean real-life change, one person and one choice at a time, that ultimately re-shapes the world. Action is required.
Why now
The prophecies of indigenous people everywhere point to these times as a period of intense purification, the transition from the current cycle to whatever comes next.
And guess what? No Native elder, no spiritual guru, no prophet or or pyschic or anyone else can tell you what the next world age will be like. We’re here to create it together.
A momentous opportunity is coming along this weekend to mold the life and the world you do want.
It begins with the new moon on July 30. On July 31, the Fifth Day of the ninth and final underworld of the Mayan calendar begins, coinciding with the Lammas/Imbolc cross-quarter gateway.
The mid-point between the June Solstice and September Equinox, Lammas (or Lughnasadh) continues through the Sun’s crossing of 15 Leo on August 7. The Fifth Day completes on August 17.
The most potent time for getting clear and setting intent is July 30-31. There’s both an opportunity and a responsibility in this.
The impact of thoughts, actions and choices go quantum when cycles line up. That means we can each contribute to planetary transformation more than ever before. On the flip side, if we don’t bother to make the most of this rare shift point, we’ll be giving our power away.
What will you choose?
Imagine
If you’re going the empowered route, take time every day to imagine the world and the life you want. What does it look like? How does it taste, smell and feel? Notice who’s there with you, and who’s not. How do you spend your time? What are the qualities of this new life and new world?
According to Carl Johan Calleman’s interpretation, the evolution of consciousness accelerates throughout the completion of the nine underworlds of the Mayan calendar this year. Within this, the July 30-31 gateway is particularly potent. This is all designed to shift consciousness in ways that will result in the creation of a new world.
Evolution is not a spectator sport. We need to contribute.
With creative-destructive energies at an all-time high, we have a supreme opportunity to restore balance. Or, things could go another way altogether.
Monitor your thoughts every moment. Whatever you’re thinking about is what you’re creating. Is there a new project you’ve been considering, something you’ve been feeling called to do? Now’s the time to get started.
The convergence of these power points on the solar/galactic wheel is a supreme gift. It arrives not a moment too soon.
Throughout August, transiting Mars will complete an explosive Grand Cardinal Cross in squares and opposition to Pluto, Uranus and Saturn.
This is pesky energy – combative, intense, destructive and highly creative. We’re playing with fire.
Expect more political and economic upheaval, personal shifts and Earth changes. Within a year of ramped-up evolution, August is a focal point. Whatever needed to change that didn’t during the eclipses from June 1 to July 1 will likely shift now, in a big way.
The air is charged with danger and uncertainty. What will happen hasn’t been decided yet. With commitment and the courage to try something different, we’ll find our way.
What’s the best path for you in these chaotic times? Try unplugging from all the external distractions, getting quiet and tuning in at least once a day for direction, guidance and inspiration.
Take that next big step.

Tonight, with the sun sinking below the western horizon, full moon about to rise in the east, humility sets in.
This is the most profound year of transformation I can remember in this or any lifetime. The great cycle shift is revealing itself to be a formidable crossing.
From the opening of 2011 through every today, we’re at once witness to and experiencer of an unprecedented acceleration of consciousness prophesied since ancient times.
Each moment drips with importance. The effects of the changes we’re initiating now – our individual and collective actions and thoughts – will be felt for millennia, throughout time and space.
All is possible in this crucible of creation. If only we will surrender.
I’ve written extensively about this passage for years now, in my book, Cosmic Time, and in various newsletters, websites and blogs. To read more about the big picture, visit the links at the end of this post.
Now What?
We’ve made it through a raucous Solstice eclipse season from the Gemini new moon on June 1 through the Cancer new moon on July 1.
Venus has now disappeared from our view, embarking on her underworld journey until she rises again as the Evening Star in September. Her spiritual initiation mirrors our own as she joins the Sun and the great star Sirius in the pre-dawn hours.
The fourth night of the Mayan Ninth Wave began July 13 and continues through July 30. The ninth and final underworld of the Mayan calendar, according to Carl Johan Calleman’s interpretation, completes October 28.
There are various planetary configurations signaling radical changes on the horizon. And now, Comet Elenin is showing up in our solar system just as the evolution really gets ramped up.
Seismic activity and extreme weather offer purification for the Earth and all creatures as well as pointed messages about how we humans need to live more harmoniously on our beloved planet. (And yes, that’s the wildfire still burning near the nuclear weapons facility at Los Alamos in the sunset photo I shot moments ago.)
As we said in January, the waves of change come faster and faster this year, reaching a culmination this fall.
I don’t offer predictions about what will happen. My sense is that we’re here to experience this passage together, to purify our souls and emerge as more fully realized beings through this passage.
I’m excited about the possibilities inherent in this shift, and stunned by the mysteries now emerging from the depths of my/our soul as we make our way through the changes. The play of shadow and light is exhilarating and excruciating – all at once.
And the Point Is…
It’s one thing to understand intellectually that something huge, something rare, is happening at this crucial time in Earth’s history. It’s another thing to experience it.
No one said it would be easy. Great compassion, patience, determination and radical self-care are required. And, when things get chaotic, it’s time to center and remember what this shift is all about.
Love is crashing open on Earth in wave upon wave of ecstatic reunion, the promise of countless lifetimes fulfilled.
A higher perspective goes a long way in helping us navigate the crossing.
I’ve devoted much of my life to raising awareness and understanding of the significance of the times we’re living in, and how we can navigate the changes with grace. I reference many others who also have dedicated their lives in this shared purpose.
I encourage you to explore with an open heart and mind. Seek truth. And, as my dear astro buddy Sao says, “May love have its way with you.”

Like the persistent blossoming of a lotus, the galactic heart opens. This week’s full moon lunar eclipse is the cosmic centerpiece of a volatile eclipse season and a moment of revelation.
The crossing of Earth’s shadow over the face of the moon on Wednesday will be visible from Australia, Japan, Asia, India, Africa, Europe and South America.
The event is the culmination of the three great lunar festivals of spring, the Festival of Humanity in esoteric tradition.
Conjunct the center of the Milky Way in late Sagittarius-Gemini, this is an alignment of consciousness, and creativity. Notice the stillness, the profound opening of love.
All full moons are about balance, and eclipses are super-potent full moons. Creativity and emotions are highly charged. Changes – often sudden and unexpected – make way for the miraculous.
The Line-Up
This week’s full moon alignment is the mid-point of a three-part series that began with a partial solar eclipse on June 1 and completes with another partial solar eclipse on July 1.
Jupiter, the guru and guide, entered Taurus on June 4. Mars is also transiting the first Earth sign, as Uranus, Saturn and Pluto face off in a tense t-square.
The ninth and final underworld of the Mayan calendar continues, with the June 15 total lunar eclipse coinciding with the the crest of the Third Night.
The lunar alignment is the gateway to the Solstice coming up on June 21.
Throughout this eclipse season, tremendous changes are happening deep within the subconscious, both individually and collectively. Structures and systems are breaking down as the beliefs that support them are transformed. A new society is emerging
Honoring the passage
In the eclipse of the Solstice Moon on June 15, the Earth, Sun and Moon align with Galactic Center, a source of creative-destructive force and spiritual heart center of the Milky Way. This is only possible near the Solstice and is related to the galactic alignment of the Mayan calendar and 2012 gateway. (For more about 2012 and the Mayan calendar, click here.)
Eclipses are lunar gaps, moments of timelessness that connect us with Great Mystery and the depths of the subconscious. Solstice is stillpoint, as the Sun seems to rise and set in the same place in the sky for three days before changing direction in its six-month migration of rising further north, or south.
In this season of upheaval and change, this is a supreme opportunity to consider our relationship with self, each other, and the Earth.
The catastrophic oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico last year and this year’s nuclear disaster caused by the March 11 earthquake and tsunami in Japan leave no room for debate. We are out of balance.
Lunar and solar alignments are moments of opportunity to heal the waters, the land, the past and the people of this amazing planet. It’s time to breathe, center and allow solutions to reach us amidst the chaos.
How can we harmonize with the Earth and create peace in the world? By bringing our lives into balance. By being peace. As individuals, families and communities, it’s up to us.
