Interesting… This morning as I stood on the street corner in West Hollywood, drinking my morning coffee and observing the city wake up, a car drove by with a young lady reading a list at the wheel. She didn’t see me as she turned the corner, her attention on the list and the interior lit by the dome light… I wondered what she was doing and why the passenger window was open. I got my answer as she slowed down in front of a house and something flew out the window…
When I was a kid, I had a paper route. Every day for many years (I have forgotten how many, but it seems like at least 4 or 5), I tramped through rain, snow, bitterly cold temperatures, beautiful sunrises and crisp energy to deliver some hundred papers to customers on my route. I was eleven or twelve, perhaps when I started, I think. I got paid by the customers, going door-to-door 2x a month to “collect” and I paid the guy who dropped the papers off at two locations on my route in big bundles that I transferred into my shoulder bag… Now for those of you who did this too, you will remember that we also carried that bag, when it was too heavy and awkward for the shoulder, by placing the strap on our foreheads with the bag draped over our backs.… Read the rest
