I used to be pro vaccine. I know the feeling of thinking others were just plain crazy and wrong for not vaccinating their children and themselves. ‘Irresponsible!’ I said when pointing my finger. I’d use the same old arguments about polio and small pox and how vaccines saved us from all those horrible diseases and just swallowing and regurgitating the propaganda I was brought up with. It was only recently, in 2009 that I started questioning my long held beliefs and began digging in to the history, efficacy and safety of vaccines. I was appalled at what I found and the recklessness of those government health agencies entrusted with our health and our children’s safety, and angry with myself that I had put my family’s health at risk by blind faith in others when I was ultimately responsible for the medical decisions of my family.
When I began to put this article together I specifically chose not to include research from or links to websites that are considered untrustworthy by most pro-vaxxers, sites such as Natural News, Mercola, etc. even though I personally trust those sites and much more than I would WebMd and for good reason [a]. Instead I chose to employ basic logic and also incorporate independent and .gov scientific studies-mostly peer review, journals, news from mainstream sources (that pro-vaxxers love and totally trust) and articles that link to other .gov scientific studies, as well as government statistical resources. So, I started writing down questions and then looking for answers. I’ll admit, some of these questions have already been asked by others, but I just expanded upon it to form a helpful list.

Why Did Our Ancestors Inter This Ancient Massive Architectural Wonder?
Located at the highest point of the Germus range in the southeastern Anatolia region of Turkey is the mysterious site of Göbekli Tepe. Excavations at Göbekli Tepe commenced in 1995 after German archaeologist Klaus Schmidt realized what was thought to be a Byzantine cemetery was actually a prehistoric site. Schmidt quickly unearthed a number of T-shaped pillars, which set the archeological world ablaze. It was not only the discovery of this ancient massive and magnificent location but also what researchers determined to be the period of its construction. Samples taken placed the earliest parts of the edifice during the Pre-Pottery Neolithic A Period some 12,000 years ago.
Excavations and geomagnetic results of this mountain top complex have revealed at least 20 circular structures. The enclosures all appear to have similar design elements. In the center of each circle stand two monumental t-shaped pillars. They are surrounded by a series of smaller t-shaped limestone pillars that radiate out from the center of each circular chamber and stand against or near a low retaining wall, made up of unworked hewn stones. The pillars vary in height from 3 to 6 meters and weigh between 40 to 60 tons. Many of them are decorated with pictograms and carvings of animals including lions, bulls, boars, foxes, gazelles, donkeys, snakes, insects, and birds. Included among these carvings are several in which anthropomorphic human figures are depicted. The floors of these enclosures are terrazzo, a mixture of burnt lime and clay that is polished.
The discovery of Göbekli Tepe perplexed archaeologists. How could a group of hunter/gatherers construct such a complex monument? Smaller structures that demonstrated an advancing progression toward this overwhelming achievement are absent from the archeological record. What also confounds them is the realization that the most complex, ornate portions of this unique site are the oldest. Sections that date to later periods of construction show a significant deterioration to the quality of design and artisanship when compared to earlier portions.
Investigations into Göbekli Tepe have primarily focused on why the complex was initially constructed. Was it a ritualistic center? An astronomical observatory? Or something more? They yearn to explain how our ancestors were able to accomplish such a grandiose feat of architecture and engineering. They seek to reveal the secrets held in the mysterious carving found on the upright pillars. The answers, like all that has been found at this unique location, have been obscure.
The riddle that surrounds Göbekli Tepe does not end there. Around 8,000 BCE Göbekli Tepe was intentionally buried. Why would our forefathers, after creating such an elaborate complex, decide to backfill it? The reason eludes investigators. Some believe it was covered to preserve it for future generations. Others contend that an outside group with a different belief system invaded the region. This new group hid the site to facilitate the purging of old religious beliefs.
These conjectures may explain why the twenty-two acres that make up the complex were hidden under a mixture of stone tools, animal bones and flint gravel. To unravel why the entire construction was entombed it is important to understand the hearts and minds of our ancestors. What was the world like for our forbearers? What did they hold true? What did they believe in, fear or revere? A concept that was pervasive in antiquity that easily explains why Göbekli Tepe was covered up was because the entire complex may have been considered “taboo”.
Taboo (tabu/tapu) is a Polynesian word that is associated with a person, place or thing that is prohibited or banned. Something can be considered too sacred or too accursed that it is excluded, separated or forbidden. The consequence of interacting with a forbidden item is the threat of supernatural punishment.
The concept of items being prohibited is not limited to Polynesia. The banning of an item in ancient and indigenous cultures is universal. It is only in our current society that the implication of the word taboo has changed. The deeply held belief in divine intervention and retribution often associated with something illicit has been abandoned. We use the word taboo in contemporary vernacular to identify something that is deemed improper, unacceptable or objectionable by society in general. Other than social scorn, the penalties previously tied to something forbidden are no longer applied.
Many things in today’s social climate are seen as being aberrant and are deemed taboo. Worldwide there are rules that prohibit sexual intercourse (incest) between different degrees of kinship. Cannibalism, or the practice of consuming human flesh, still is considered sacrilegious. The same holds true for necrophilia, the sleeping or having sexual relations with a dead person. It has only been in very recent times that our view towards inter-racial, inter-religious or homosexual unions has changed, moving them from being taboo to having varied levels of social acceptability.
Ancient taboos have survived into modern times in many cultures. They are prevalent in Judaism where a large number of prohibitions are still observed by conservative Jews. The consumption of animals that have cloven hooves and chews its cud is permitted in this religious tradition. Camels, rabbit and pork, none of which have both of these qualities, are forbidden. Shellfish, such as lobsters, oysters, shrimp, clams and crabs are all prohibited. Any product that is derived from these forbidden animals, such as their milk, eggs, fat, or organs also cannot be eaten. The Torah bans the consumption of blood. It also forbids eating meat and dairy together.
These prohibitions also extend to the pots, pans, plates and utensils used to cook and eat the food. If a pot or pan, for example, is used to cook meat and then later used to heat milk, it is believed that meat and milk have just been mixed (basar bechalav) and the forbidden status has now been transmitted to the pan, taking away its proper, “kosher” status. The pan is now taboo.
A vast number of things were universally prohibited in antiquity and included touching or coming in contact with a corpse. This rendered the mourners and anyone else involved with the passing of an individual impure. The house the deceased live in, in some cultures, was torn down, burned with all of his or her possessions inside or deserted, never to be used again. Menstruating woman were perceived as being unclean and contact with them was forbidden. Women, during their cycle, were quarantined to prevent contaminating other members of society. To mitigate exposure, huts or tents were erected on the edge of the village and women during this period were required to spend their time in them. Touching a woman during this interval, an item she touched, sat or laid upon would contaminate the other person.
Taboos ruled the lives of our predecessors. Their belief in their power was commanding. There was a mysterious and dangerous quality to them. A person who was exposed to something that was prohibited was perceived as being infected. The infection they carried was communicable and life threatening. The taboo, like a rampant virus, would infect anyone the contagious individual encountered. Instead of worrying about the aches and pains of a physical malady, they dreaded the retribution of the gods for transgressing a divine command. Stories have emerged of individuals getting sick and dying after being infected by this powerful charm. These stories, like fairy tales, further supported the power taboos held over a community.
Once something was deemed improper or unclean it was only by means of cleansing and ritual purification that its taboo status could be lifted. The use of water as a vehicle of purification is consistent in most cultures. The act of washing, whether water is sprinkled on the body, the hands and face are washed or the entire body is immersed, seems widespread in eliminating ones unclean or improper status. Fasting, praying, animal sacrifices and smudging were also methods employed to remove specific taboos.
Not everything that was “unclean” was considered taboo. Things that were holy fell into this category, rendering persons, places or things prohibited as well. It is easy to imagine the perceived toxicity of something that is conceived of as being unclean. It is hard for us to envision how contact with something that is holy would produce the same result. Sacred items in antiquity were believed to belong to the gods and were forbidden to man. They were to be avoided, kept away from and not touched. They were only accessible to a select few. These ordained individuals fasted and purified themselves prior to contact with the divine.
Hallowed items followed the same rules as unclean ones. Blood, with the exception of menstrual blood, was inherently viewed as being sacred. It was the essence of life. This included human blood as well as animal blood. It was not to be touched and as we learn from Jewish tradition consumed. Anything that blood fell upon was rendered taboo making it unusable for common purposes.
This prohibition extended to the individual who shed the blood. Priests and holy men who performed ritual sacrifice were uniquely qualified to interact with this holy liquid. Animals were not hunted, caught and killed in the irreverent way they are today. Rituals were performed before the hunt began as well as when the animals were slaughtered and butchered. There was a deep respect for the animal and its role in their lives. The gods were thanked after a successful hunt and the spirit of the animal praised for being willing to participate in their success.
Certain animals (totem animals) were especially revered because they were associated with a god or the presence of a god. They were not to be killed unless it was part of a ritual sacrifice. The Hindu text the Manu smṛti, or Laws of Manu, describes what foods were deemed lawful and those that were forbidden in Indian culture. Eating meat was acceptable if it was done while honoring the gods. Manu emphasizes that killing an animal for rituals was “non-killing” and acceptable. On the other hand, if the slaughtering was not in accordance the correct Vedic practice the individual would sink into the depths of hell.
Many cultures required the consumption of the entire ritually sacrificed animal within a prescribed period. The parts of the animal that were left over, because of their sanctified nature, were burned, buried or otherwise carefully disposed of. This eliminated the possibility of accidentally coming into contact with something sacred.
A god or other supernatural being was inherently taboo. Rulers around the world were similarly regarded. They were perceived to be divine or semi-divine. The rules associated with the gods applied to their earthly emissaries. When a god was exposed to an object, the object could no longer be used in everyday “ordinary” life. It was forbidden in some cultures to look upon a god. Similarly, if he looked at you, you, your clothes and all that you possessed in that moment were instantly affected.
The names of the gods were never spoken. We see this reflected in Jewish tradition where uttering God’s name (יהוה – YHVH) is prohibited. The word Adonai (“my Lord”) or HaShem” (“the Name”) is often substituted to keep from violating this restriction. And like Moses who removed his sandals when he encountered God on Mount Sinai, it was common practice in many cultures to remove their shoes when walking on sacred ground lest their sandals become transformed. Contact with hallowed ground would have made their shoes unusable for everyday living. Priests and other individuals, who regularly were exposed to the divine, often wore special garments that were reserved for that purpose.

A god, or his human counterpart, could not be touched; his possessions could not be handled. Likewise, if he touched you or something that belonged to you, its status was instantly changed. The rules of taboo included their home and anything in it. If a divine agent entered someone’s home, their home became sanctified and no one else could go into it or use it. Even the ground a divinity walked upon was deemed holy. Their fear of unintentionally coming into contact with something sacred was so powerful that it became custom in many regions to carry the god-king upon a littler so his feet did not touch the ground.
This brings us back to Göbekli Tepe and why it was entombed. No written record exists attesting to the grandeur of Göbekli Tepe. There are no stories, myths or legends referring to it. The site and its inhabitants have been forgotten, lost in time. Yet the magnificence that has been unearthed on this remote, mountain top testifies to a people, a culture or a god that defies history and with all of is luster it was buried, hidden under tons of debris for 10,000 years.
Scholars suggest that the region had been invaded by an outside culture. Their goal in concealing the complex was to purge the indigenous people of their old religious beliefs. If this were the case, the site could have been destroyed. The massive t-shaped pillars could have been knocked over, the enclosing structures dismantled and the delicate stone carvings defaced. This is not what was found. The entire complex was in virtually pristine condition. The stones used to construct it were undisturbed, as if it had been preserved in a time capsule, only to be unearthed later.
The sheer effort it took to inter this location suggests something else. It indicates that something bigger, more important was at stake for the local residents. Individuals who are diagnosed with a highly contagious disease are immediately put under quarantine. If the threat of a pandemic were perceived, drastic measures would be taken to contain it. Would we use nuclear weapons or something worse to eradicate the potential spread of a communicable virus? Stepping into the hearts and minds of our ancestors, did the people who lived in the Germus range in southeastern Turkey find themselves in a similar situation?
Ancient customs suggests that when an individual died it was commonplace to abandon, desert or destroy his or her home. It was also a widespread practice to avoid contact with sacred places, including walking on holy ground. Likewise, if the stones used to construct the site were utilized somewhere else their infectious nature would follow. Their obsession over potential contamination may have been so intense that they may have believed they risked divine retribution if a particle of dust from this grand and mysterious site were to blow down from its mountain perch and land on their soil.
Could the inhabitants, from the region surrounding Göbekli Tepe, considered this location so holy, so sacred that when its resident left or died it was decided to bury it and avoid accidental exposure? Were they saving themselves from potentially spreading a rampant taboo through their society and its associated punishment? Taken as a whole, it seems clear that the people of the region inhumed the entire complex to save themselves from the wrath of gods and their own potential demise.

We’ve all had to let go of things at some point or another. Whether it be a pet, friend, boyfriend, or simply graduating high school. We are constantly ending chapters in order to start new chapters.
Though age and experience can make it a little easier to let go and move forward, completely letting go and allowing ourselves to heal and look to the future with optimism and excitement can be difficult to achieve. Our tendency can be to focus on “what used to be” and idealistically hold on to the past as if it had everything we ever wanted.
The problem with this, however, is that it ultimately causes more suffering. It doesn’t encourage growth and it doesn’t help us move forward. We have to learn how to find a balance between grieving as we need to and focusing on where we are now and what we want to have that we couldn’t before. Here are four ways to help you master the art of letting go:
#1 — Pay tribute. We can do this in a number of different ways depending on your own personal preference.
You can write down your thoughts and feelings about this in a journal. If you are trying to let go of a person (either with a breakup or the person’s passing), you can write them a letter sharing all the things that you valued about the relationship and then you can either send it or keep it for yourself. If the person or pet has passed, you could create a little ritual out of it by leaving the letter in a place that reminds you of that person.
If you’re not much into writing, you could also create a photo album or scrapbook to help yourself continue to cherish those memories. This can be a nice way to “organize our pieces of the past” into one activity.
#2 — Cry when you need to. Know that it’s okay to grieve. If a thought or memory comes up when you’re grocery shopping then let it out. If it happens in the shower, then let it out. Don’t try to hold it in or force yourself to cry cause you think you should. Just let it happen naturally.
Your body and soul knows when it needs to grieve… trust that it will come up when it needs to. And allow it to come out when you feel it come up rather than whether it is “socially appropriate.”
Focus on what you need rather than whether it will “make other people uncomfortable.” Take care of yourself — be your own emotionally nurturing mother in this way.
If you feel that you just need a night to watch movies by yourself or with a close friend then do that. If you feel up for going out and being in a large group then do that. But don’t do it just because someone else told you you should. Do it because you really feel that you need it right now rather than because others told you to.
That being said, if you feel that others are pushing you to do something or if they are making you feel like a “victim” more than giving you the support you need, then kindly tell them to back off. Remember that it’s okay to say something like, “I know you’re trying to help because you care about me, but I really need _________ right now instead.”
#4 — Focus on what you are gaining. When one door closes another door opens. Whether it be the end of a relationship, job, or the unfortunate passing of someone close to you, there is always another door that opens. Focus on the opportunities that you have.
Ask yourself: What can I know create for myself in my relationships or career? Where can I move? What can I do that I haven’t done before? Focus on the possibilities. Dream big. Start to write yourself a bucket list or vision board and begin to make plans to make that a reality.
Ultimately, remember that tomorrow is another day. Life is a journey and even though one day may be very difficult for you, know that with each new day brings the opportunity for a completely new experience. Start each new day fresh and looking forward to all the new opportunities.
Remember: If it is the end of a relationship or the passing of someone close to you, chances are there will always be a small part of you deep within your soul that will always grieve because you miss them. This is okay! The trick here is to not focus so heavily on it that it drags you down.
Give yourself space to cry when it comes up but after you let it all out then go back to focus on the present and creating the life of your dreams. After you let it out, do something that you love to do — dance, play music, go for a run, do crafts, write… simply, enjoy life!

When we talk about drugs, we have to keep in mind that the word ”drug” is a general term used for a vast variety of substances and plants which has physiological and biological effects on humans. Sugar and coffee, for example, are just a few on the list.
Are all drugs bad? Are all drugs good? Is there a difference between chemicals and plants? Can a truthful education about this matter prevent the negative effects caused by the bad drugs and reveal the benefits of the good ones?
In my previous article: ‘’The Catalysts for Change: Why consciousness expanding plants are feared and deemed illegal?’’, I have proposed an idea of education which is not exactly the type of education we were exposed to in schools. Although some of the things which are taught in schools might be useful later on in life, the absence of truthful drug education in the curriculum can and actually does cause harm, potentially leading to undesirable consequences. I wish I would have had this kind of education during my youth. It sure would have spared a lot of problems for me, my parents and countless other people I knew, some of whom didn’t live long enough to know better.
Is the fear instilled on us by the government slogans: ‘’Say No to Drugs’’, effective? Does this prevent the people from having their lives ruined by the dangerous street drugs, not knowing the difference nor the alternatives?
Is it not the time to have a honest talk?
How about we start from the worse and talk about heroin and cocaine which are found in abundance on the streets of every city. What do we actually know about these substances?
Well, neither heroin nor cocaine in the form which is available on the streets is natural; both are processed chemicals.
Let’s talk about heroin first. Heroin is a street name for a synthesized morphine which is naturally occurring alkaloid in the opium poppy. Morphine is a classic example for abused medicine. Morphine is a powerful analgesic which should be only used for medical purposes. Does the abuse of morphine means that the opium poppy is bad? Of course not. The poppy grows for a reason and has a specific purpose.
Is heroin bad? Yes, if abused. If not, it’s an analgesic medicine.
What is cocaine? Well, what you buy on the street as cocaine is not really cocaine. Cocaine is one of 14 alkaloids found in the coca leafs which we call Sacred in the Andes. On every shamanic altar you will find coca leafs which are prayed with and made as an offering. Coca is truly a gift from Mother Nature. It gives you the strength and stamina when needed, fights fatigue and suppresses thirst and hunger. Make you work or walk all day in the mountains without food, water or getting tired. This is how people survive in the Andes. Fernando Cabieses Molina, respected Peruvian neurosurgeon and educator, founder of Peru’s National Institute of Traditional Medicine, world-renowned authority and longtime defender of native use of herbal medicines including coca, has studied the chemical properties of coca leaf and cocaine for 40 years. He argues that the coca leaf, when chewed in quantity, relieves hunger, thirst and fatigue. His conclusion was certain: chewing coca leafs does not produce the euphoria, anxiety, depression or addiction that is experienced by cocaine users. He further explains that extraction of one alkaloid results in a qualitatively different substance, which like the distinctive methods by which it is introduced into the body, produces different physiological consequences. It is, as he says, “…as if instead of smoking or chewing tobacco, we refined and injected it…”
I do agree and can support the doctor’s views with my own humble experience. Chewing coca is not addictive. It is impossible to get addicted to the leaf. I have been chewing and drinking coca for six consecutive years, and in big quantities when needed. Then, when I don’t need it, I don’t use it.
You are being served coca tea in every restaurant and hotel while being in Cusco or the Sacred Valley of the Incas in Peru. This is the way of the Andes.
But is the same coca that reaches you? No! What’s reaching you is one extracted alkaloid which then gets mixed with methamphetamines (synthetic drugs) to increase its weigh and thus the profit to the manufacturer. And this is where the problem starts. The synthetic additives are causing the addiction and consequently psychosis.
Is cocaine bad? Yes but not the Coca. Coca is stimulating, highly nutritive, longevity medicine.
It contains proteins, vitamins and high concentration of calcium. Coca is pure medicine when respected and used in traditional way.
It’s how we use the plant that matters.
Let’s say that you left the fire on in the chimney on the way out from your house. Then when you have returned, you found your house burnt to the ground. Is the fire bad? But is it not the same fire that keeps you warm and helps you cook your food?
When you hear about violent crimes when firearm is used, do you blame the guns or the people using them?
Is it not the same gun that can protect your family from home invasion, robbery, rape or murder?
It’s how we use the tools that matters.
When we dealing with any tools and forms of energy, we need to remember that they are morally transparent and it is our intention that gives them the color. A responsible and knowledgeable use of medicinal plants and psychedelics can be beneficial just as the mindless use of legal substances can be destructive.
Before we proceed to the other category of plants, let us remind ourselves that the two plants above are related to sedatives and stimulants, not to psychedelics or consciousness expanding plants, which are completely different story.
Psychedelic simply means: mind manifesting, a term first sculpted out from the clay of words by doctor Hampry Osmand while preparing for the psychiatric conference in 1956. He was the same doctor who has administrated mescaline, a naturally occurring alkaloid in San Pedro and Peyote cactus, to Aldous Huxley who wrote about his experience in his epic book, “the Doors of Perception’’, which took off like a wild fire, sparkling both delight and critique. Although being aware of the book, for the first time I’ve read it when I already have had 10 years of experience and roughly 700 mescaline journeys, always done in shamanic setting, and was rather looking for faults in Huxley’s writing. Found none, however, I was rather humbled by such a brilliant account of his. He has definitely seen the essence and touched the heart of the mystical experience, to which mescaline served as the key unlocking the forbidden doors of perception.
We should look at psychedelics as powerful tools for studying the inner world of man, just as the telescope is used as an instrument to study stars. That which is seen and learned through the telescope will remain unknown for the man who looks at the stars with the naked eye. And just as the telescope is helping to focus the light emitted from the darker corners of the cosmos, thus making it seen, in similar manner psychedelics are helping us to focus the attention on our consciousness, magnifying it to a comprehensible size.
But what is a psychedelic experience?
Well, for certain, it is not contained in the words describing it. It is in fact a wordless, internal and intimate encounter with the Other, which has many faces. Some of these astonishing, others are bearing teaching. When we refer to the mescaline experience in particular, the closest word to describe an indescribable experience would be: ‘’beatific vision’’, as it has been rightly noted earlier by mystics. We can write poetry about it and still be far from the experience itself. Words are only symbols, a finger pointing to the moon, not the moon themselves. ‘’Words are utter but fail to enlighten’’- as Aldous Huxley has precisely said.
Through mescaline, one gains admission to the real world, escaping limitations of the linguistic prison, which although is rich with a tapestry of words and concepts, is still a prison.
The validation of this experience is a personal quest and a solitary journey, even when taken together with others. It’s like life and death; we are born and die alone. Same with the psychedelic journey. A mescaline experience is capable of opening the inner vision, revealing the unseen. It is a key with which you can unlock the mental shackles and set your mind free. It is the fuel we need to reach the stars without taking off the ground.
But a psychedelic experience cannot be viewed and studied only scientifically as merely a chemical reaction in the brain. In addition to this kind of study, the scientists who are on the case must have the experience themselves. How can one otherwise learn about the water without ever getting wet? This whole phenomenon belongs to another order, another realm of consciousness which undeniably exists although cannot to be measured or captured on the screen. It belongs to metaphysics, which is a fundamental part of a human existence.
As I have myself been interested in the eastern spiritual paths long before I met shamanic plants, divine cactus of Peru and Mexico in particular, I could deeply relate to Huxley’s search and feel his passion for the direct spiritual experience of an objective reality. The stupendous beauty of the world engulfed with life and meaning, which is always present behind the veil of an ordinary perception of reality, which can be gently lifted by the grace of the mescaline cacti, is that very same place which has been known for ages by the Sufis, sages and mystics of the East.
Born an atheist in the Soviet Union in a Jewish family, I was looking for God all my life, trying to prove that God does not exist. But only after having my psychedelic experiences on mescaline, I began to understand that I was looking for God in the wrong places. The God I found was not living in the buildings. Nor present in the books.
During the years, I was pondering the questions such as: was the psychedelic experience real? Was it subjective? Was it a shortcut to Enlightenment? Was it beneficial to me and our species?
I wanted to find my own answers to my questions, knowing that I cannot take opinions of other people for an answer. Those, to me, would be merely words.
So here, I would like to share some of my answers to myself which perhaps you will find useful to you as well. My view is an ordinary view of non-ordinary reality which under certain conditions is accessible to all.
Is the psychedelic experience real?
Well, that depends on what we think as being real. If we think that real is something we can touch with our hands, then the answer is NO. But if real means something which can be observed and repeatedly experienced, then the answer is YES.
Is this experience subjective?
Yes. Any type of experience can only be subjective since any experience requires a subject to be experienced. Thus objective reality can be only experienced subjectively.
Is this a shortcut to Enlightenment?
This question would first demand a definition of Enlightenment. If enlightenment means something different that the act of bringing the light into our own ignorance about ourselves and the world we are living in, while making us aware of our own embodied consciousness which was lucky enough to experience life thought the human body, which together with the galactic mass rotates in the limitless space on a tiny but beautiful cosmic oasis we call Earth, while realizing the miracle of life made of cosmic dust, which in fact is an illusion that irrefutably exists, then I would not know the answer. But if enlightenment means that expanded and all inclusive consciousness which can recognize itself in all other life forms, while remaining a sovereign point of perception of the infinite reality of which it is also a part, then the answer is YES. But would this ‘’shortcut’’ not be welcomed if it allows a man to live a normal life as human being, a life of joy and love, while exploring his own consciousness and finding God in the atom? Would the fast-track not be welcomed as opposed to the tedious work and a lifelong, self-restraining path prescribed to eastern adepts?
I am mortal; I want it now and I want it all.
Said that, however, I do not mean to put down the ancient eastern paths which indeed are valid. In fact, Huxley’s study and involvement in Vedanta for over 20 years has allowed him to recognize the essence of the mescaline experience, transfiguring a psychedelic journey into a spiritual one. This psychedelic spirituality or as we also call it an evolutionary shamanism simply means the use of the energy of the psychoactive plants to ponder the nature of reality and ourselves in it, as oppose to the traditional shamanism which mainly deals with healing.
There is still an open debate about whether or not a glimpse of awakening guided by psychedelics substances and plants is valid and equal to the eastern paths of mysticism. Here, perhaps we can answer this question with another question: does the way to knowledge matter more than the knowledge itself? Is the method paramount to results? If both can lead to the same levels of being and understanding, then what would be the difference and what are the indications of one being inferior or superior to the other?
Both ways are valid and can be complementary. Both must be experienced.
It is important to note that a millennium long rich spiritual tradition of India, which is active to this day, has created a certain egregor of enlightenment which serves as a fertilizer for its own kind. Deeply embedded in the culture, its influence still gives birth to a sporadic awakening in people of this land. For us, westerners, who have been disconnected from our spiritual roots, first by religion and later by science (or shall we say scientism, for science has become dogmatic), and whose perception of reality has been conditioned and narrowed down to the world of superstition and physical appearances, incapable of seeing beyond either – another type of help is needed, that which is capable of catapulting us into the realm of consciousness where saints feel at home.
Is psychedelic experience beneficial?
Well, that would depend on the person. There is no cure for stupidity. But generally speaking, a responsible use of psychedelics can be quite beneficial not only to the person who is experiencing but for his family, his surrounding and ultimately to the world we live in. It can be liken to the alchemical process during which the impurities in man are burnt, while purifying him into a better person.
If the experience is able to have an impact on our behavior patterns, while helping us stop being destructive to ourselves and others, if it can trigger both physiological and psychological healing, helping a person to get rid of alcohol and drug addictions while in itself remaining non-addictive remedy, if it has the capacity to open artistic abilities which otherwise would remain in the latent form, and make one think, thus contributing to cultivation of peace, love and consciousness within oneself and surrounding, then what would be the answer?
Said that, however, it is also important to mention that no psychedelic substances or plants should be taken lightly. It is a serious undertaking for mature and responsible people who are looking for healing, understanding and expansion of their perception of reality, and willing to engage with life, instead escaping it.

We are at last beginning to show that there is an intimate and dynamic relationship between what is going on with our feelings and thoughts and what happens in the body. A Time magazine special showed that happiness, hopefulness, optimism and contentment, “Appear to reduce the risk or limit the severity of cardiovascular disease, pulmonary disease, diabetes, hypertension, colds and upper-respiratory infections; while depression — the extreme opposite of happiness — can worsen heart disease, diabetes and a host of other illnesses.”
Illness is very real, accidents happen, and medicine can certainly help: Deb recently had a burst appendix, and she is immensely grateful for the medical intervention that saved her life. But the role of the mind and emotions in our state of health appears to be a vital one and by understanding this relationship we can claim a greater role in our own wellbeing. It is only a part of the overall picture, but it is the part that is invariably overlooked.
“A basic emotion such as fear can be described as an abstract feeling or as a tangible molecule of the hormone adrenaline,” writes Deepak Chopra in Ageless Body, Timeless Mind. “Without the feeling there is no hormone; without the hormone there is no feeling … The revolution we call mind-body medicine was based on this simple discovery: wherever thought goes, a chemical goes with it.”
Just as all parts of our being interact and work together, so if we ignore the role our feelings and thoughts play we are ignoring the role they have. And it may be the one that most needs to get fixed.
Generally speaking, we tend to think of our bodies and minds as separate systems and
believe they function, for the most part, independently. Yet can you remember the last time you had an interview for a job? Or went on a first date with someone you were really trying to impress? In either case, no doubt you wanted to appear calm and collected but at the same time you were feeling nervous and self-conscious. Can you recall how your body felt? Self-consciousness will tighten your buttock muscles (so you are literally sitting on your tension), you will sweat more than usual, may feel slightly nauseous, and you’ll probably fluff your words, just when you want to appear suave and confident.
In other words, our emotions affect us physically. It might be easy to understand that a scary thought gets our heart beating faster, but it can be harder to realize that loneliness, sadness or depression can also affect us physically, and when it comes to more complex emotions or illnesses few of us consider our emotions to have any relevance.
In Woody Allen’s movie “Annie Hall,” Diane Keaton wants to know why he isn’t angry. “I don’t get angry,” Allen replies, “I grow a tumor instead.”
Understanding the bodymind relationship won’t necessarily cure all our physical difficulties but by learning the language of symptoms and illness we can discover what is being repressed or ignored in our psyche and emotions, and how this is influencing our well-being. From this vantage point we discover that there is an extraordinarily intimate two-way communication going on between our body and mind that affects both our physical state and our mental and emotional health.

What happens when you get irritated or frustrated?
Where do you experience those feelings in your body? If you are stuck in a traffic jam, a client is late for an appointment, or the children keep interrupting your conversation, what happens to your breathing, your shoulders or stomach muscles? Does your breathing get short and shallow? Do the muscles tighten?
How does worry affect you?
What happens in your body when you are worried or anxious about something, perhaps a child who is late coming home, a presentation you have to give, or the results of your partner’s blood test? Where do you hold the anxiety? What physical effect does it have? Do fears about the future create a pain in your stomach? Or do your legs ache or feel tired?
How do you react when someone is angry with you?
If your boss or your partner shouts at you, what happens to your heart, your head, your insides? What do you do with angry feelings? Do you express them, or is there somewhere you put them? Is your headache because you have built up unexpressed anger? Do you swallow hard, get a sore throat, clench your muscles, or get constipated?
How do memories affect you?
What happens if you recall past memories? Do you feel warm and relaxed, or do you break out in a sweat and feel nervous? Pay particular attention to what happens when you recall unhappy memories, perhaps when a parent hit you or you were bullied at school. As you follow these memories, watch where in your body there is a reaction, a tightening or nervousness.
Ask Yourself About illnesses and injuries
Think back to past illnesses or times when you were hurt. Note the parts of your body that were involved. Have you always held your stomach muscles in tight, have you always had recurring headaches, have you always hurt the same side of your body?
Use the answers you get from these questions to understand yourself more deeply. They may give you the clues you need to find your healing.

In the Christian Bible, it is written that a man named Saul experienced an event so extreme that it changed his views in an instant, and he became one of the most influential evangelists in early Christianity.
Saul was said to have been a vehement persecutor of the followers of Jesus and was traveling in search of disciples of Jesus for punishment. It is written in the fifth book of the New Testament, Acts of the Apostles, that Saul was on the road to Damascus, Syria, when a bright light appeared in the sky. So intense was the light that he was blinded for three days. What he heard was described as a great thunderous sound, or a divine voice. He and his companions are said to have been knocked to the ground by the force of the event. The experience was so profound that Saul changed his name to Paul, took up missionary journeys across the Mediterranean, and became instrumental in spreading Christianity.
William Hartmann, co-founder of the Planetary Science Institute in the U.S. has connected Paul’s experience with similar accounts of exploding meteors, such as the well-recorded Chelyabinsk meteor which broke up over Russia in 2013, injuring over 1,500 people. The eyewitness descriptions and physical reactions to meteors or fireballs in the sky seem to parallel what is recorded about Paul.
If true, then it’s possible that an act of nature may have been contributory in the spread and evolution of Christianity in its early days, and therefore shaped the course of history.
In a study published in the journal Meteoritics and Planetary Science, Hartmann cites major events like the meteors or asteroids over Chelyabinsk, Russia and Tunguska, Siberia as offering “opportunities to compare reactions of modern eyewitnesses to eyewitness accounts of possible ancient fireball events.” There are consistencies among the many accounts suggesting the biblical descriptions of Paul’s experience closely match known modern events, reports NewScientist.
In the biblical accounts, Paul was blinded for three days due to the intense light from the sky; it was “brighter than the sun, shining round me,” according to the text. This matches the Chelyabinsk meteor, as it was calculated to be shining around three times as bright as the sun. The blazing fireball made shadows move around the ground as it travelled.
Paul and his companions were said to have been knocked to the earth, and this also corresponds to the shockwave generated by the powerful Chelyabinsk meteor as it blasted out windows, knocked people off their feet, shook cars and buildings, and collapsed roofs.
The divine voice is said to have either boomed like thunder, or questioned Paul’s behavior (the exact sound is debated). Meteors create great, explosive booms and roars which can be scary or painful even for those who know what they’re experiencing.
To the ancients the incredible and unfamiliar natural celestial events were interpreted through cultural understandings of the day – which is to say, they were considered divine or damning.
The Chelyabinsk meteor gave off small amounts of radiation, enough to cause sunburn and temporary blindness in witnesses. Harmann suggests that Paul could have suffered photokeratitis, a temporary blindness from intense ultraviolet radiation, and this explains the return of his sight after healing.
Hartmann told NewScientist, “Everything they are describing in those three accounts in the book of Acts are exactly the sequence you see with a fireball.”
IBTimes writes that the Acts of Apostles text describes three events of bright lights “from heaven” which took place around Damascus during the 30s B.C. If meteorites can be found in Syria, and accurately dated to the relevant timeframes, it might give support to the published theories.
Hartmann’s research aim is not to discredit Christianity, but to demonstrate how the interpretation of ancient events may have shaped how we exist today, spiritually and culturally.
This wouldn’t be the first meteorite in history to have potentially inspired worship or acted as an agent of change. In antiquity meteorites were seen as messages from the gods, or profound omens, and many cultures saw fallen meteorites as religious icons to be worshiped or as objects of protection. Jewelry and art has also been created from the space rocks.
Each year devout Muslims make the pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia, circling the Kaaba, or black stone, and give a nod or a kiss to the meteorite that is said to rest inside the Grand Mosque. The worship of the Black Stone goes back to pre-Islamic shrines, when Semitic cultures used unusual stones to signify sites of reverence. According to Muslim belief, the stone originates from the time of Adam and the Islamic prophet Muhammad set the Black Stone in place after it fell from the skies.

Whether it was a Druid temple, an astronomical calendar or a centre for healing, the mystery of Stonehenge has long been a source of speculation and debate. Now a dramatic new theory suggests that the prehistoric monument was in fact “an ancient Mecca on stilts”.
The megaliths would not have been used for ceremonies at ground level, but would instead have supported a circular wooden platform on which ceremonies were performed to the rotating heavens, the theory suggests.
Julian Spalding, an art critic and former director of some of the UK’s leading museums, argues that the stones were foundations for a vast platform, long since lost – “a great altar” raised up high towards the heavens and able to support the weight of hundreds of worshippers.
“It’s a totally different theory which has never been put forward before,” Spalding told the Guardian. “All the interpretations to date could be mistaken. We’ve been looking at Stonehenge the wrong way: from the earth, which is very much a 20th-century viewpoint. We haven’t been thinking about what they were thinking about.”
Since Geoffrey of Monmouth wrote in the 12th century that Merlin had flown the stones from Ireland, theories on Stonehenge, from plausible to absurd, have abounded. In the last decade alone, the monument has been interpreted as “the prehistoric Lourdes” where people brought the sick to be healed by the power of the magic bluestones from Wales and as a haunted place of the dead contrasting with seasonal feasts for the living at nearby Durrington Walls.
The site pored over by archaeologists for centuries still produces surprises, including the outline of stones now missing, which appeared in the parched ground in last summer’s drought and showed that the monument was not left unfinished as some had believed, but was once a perfect circle.
Spalding, who is not an archaeologist, believes that other Stonehenge theorists have fallen into error by looking down instead of up. His evidence, he believes, lies in ancient civilisations worldwide. As far afield as China, Peru and Turkey, such sacred monuments were built high up, whether on manmade or natural sites, and in circular patterns possibly linked to celestial movements.
He said: “In early times, no spiritual ceremonies would have been performed on the ground. The Pharaoh of Egypt and the Emperor of China were always carried – as the Pope used to be. The feet of holy people were not allowed to touch the ground. We’ve been looking at Stonehenge from a modern, earth-bound perspective.”
“All the great raised altars of the past suggest that the people who built Stonehenge would never have performed celestial ceremonies on the lowly earth,” he went on. “That would have been unimaginably insulting to the immortal beings, for it would have brought them down from heaven to bite the dust and tread in the dung.”
Spalding’s theory has not met with universal approval. Prof Vincent Gaffney, principal investigator on the Stonehenge Hidden Landscapes Project at Bradford University, said he held “a fair degree of scepticism” and Sir Barry Cunliffe, a prehistorian and emeritus professor of European archaeology at Oxford University, said: “He could be right, but I know of no evidence to support it”.
The archaeologist Aubrey Burl, an authority on prehistoric stone circles, said: “There could be something in it. There is a possibility, of course. Anything new and worthwhile about Stonehenge is well worth looking into, but with care and consideration.”
On Monday Spalding publishes his theories in a new book, titled Realisation: From Seeing to Understanding – The Origins of Art. It explores our ancestors’ understanding of the world, offering new explanations of iconic works of art and monuments.
Stonehenge, built between 3000 and 2000BC, is England’s most famous prehistoric monument, a UNESCO World Heritage site on Salisbury Plain in Wiltshire that draws more than 1 million annual visitors. It began as a timber circle, later made permanent with massive blocks of stone, many somehow dragged from dolerite rock in the Welsh mountains. Spalding believes that ancient worshippers would have reached the giant altar by climbing curved wooden ramps or staircases.

1. Parallel Universes

While we’ve all got fantasies of what we’d do if given the opportunity, scientists at the University of California Santa Barbara may have cleared the path to righting the wrongs of years gone by.
In a 2010 experiment, the scientists proved that an object may exist simultaneously in two different worlds. They isolated a tiny piece of metal, struck it like a tuning fork and observed that it moved and stood still at the same time. While you probably would have just racked this observation up to delirium caused by overwork, these physicists say it proves that observing an object and action splits the universe into two parts — one we can see and one we can’t. The parallel universe theory says everything freezes during observation — and then splits.
Scientists are trying to figure out how to jump at the moment of that split from the world we will enter into the one we won’t. This parallel universe time travel theory should work, scientists say, because quantum particles move backward and forward through time . Now, all scientists have to do is build a time-bending machine using these quantum particles.
3. Quantum cryptography
Encoding messages inside an individual particle of light, or photon, has long been the goal of quantum cryptographers. That method seems to be just at hand, as scientists at the University of Toronto have worked with a method fast enough to encode a video . Cryptography involves a string of ones and zeros called the “key.” Adding the key once encodes the information, adding it again decodes it. If an unauthorized person manages to obtain the key, the code can be cracked. But in quantum key distribution, the very act of using the key would reveal the hacker’s presence.
5. The God Particle
According to some physicists who have tested Bell’s inequality, reality is based on the observer effect, which could explain the power of shamanistic healing and the interaction between the reality of local space-time and human consciousness. As far back as 1998, controlled experiments have demonstrated the effect of observation on particles .
7. Quantum Dots
While high-tech science certainly is responsible for many medical breakthroughs, man was dependent on other means of fighting illness for centuries.
Processing information through circuits with spintronics would allow information to be carried in two directions at once, further reducing the size of electronic circuits . This new material injects electrons into the semiconductor based on their spin orientation. The electrons travel through the semiconductor and are ready to be a spin detector on the other side. Scientists say the new semiconductor can work at room temperature and is optically transparent, meaning it could work with touch screens and solar cells. They are also optimistic that it will enable inventors to come up with even more multi-functional devices.
9. Turbulence Control
Turbulence is caused by swirls in a gas or liquid, and in nature occurs in a chaotic manner, seemingly without rhyme or reason . While turbulence can form in air and in water, physicists have discovered it can also form in ultra-cold atom gases and superfluid helium. By studying turbulence in a controlled method in the lab, scientists may one day be able to predict and perhaps control it in nature.
