QQ The 30^th annual awards ceremony of the W. Eugene Smith Memorial Fund took place at the Asia Society in New York City. Lu Guang (卢广) from People’s Republic of China won the $30,000 W. Eugene Smith Grant in Humanistic Photography for his documentary project “Pollution in China.”

Lu Guang (卢广), freelancer photographer, started as an amateur photographer in 1980. He was a factory worker, later started his own photo studio and advertising agency. August of 1993 he returned to post-graduate studies at the Central Arts and Design Academy in Beijing (now is the Academy of Arts and Design, Tsinghua University). During graduate school, he studied, traveled all over the country and carved out a career, became the “dark horse” of the photographer circle in Beijing. Skilled at social documentary photography, his insightful, creative and artistic work often focused on “social phenomena and people living at the bottom of society”, attracted the attentions of the national photography circle and the media. Many of his award winning works focused on social issues like, “gold rush in the west”, “drug girl”, “small coal pit”, “HIV village”, “the Grand Canal”, “development of the Qinghai-Tibet Railway” and so on.

3. Fan Jai Zhuang in Anyang City, Henan province, (河南安阳市范家庄) there is only one wall separating this village from the steelmaking furnaces. The villagers live in this heavily polluted environment where the village is under the iron rain every day. March 24, 2008

4. Industrial sewage of Zhejiang Xiaoshan Industrial District (浙江萧山化工园区) eventually flowed into Qiantang River. April 24, 2009

6. Guiyu, Guangdong province, (广东省贵屿镇) rivers and reservoirs have been contaminated, the villager is washing in a seriously polluted pond. November 25, 2005

7. Shizuishan Industrial district in Ningxia province (宁夏石嘴山湖滨工业园区), the tall chimneys spitted out smoke and dust. Residents took preventive measure for the falling dust from the sky when going outside. April 22, 2006

8. In the Yellow Sea coastline, countless sewage pipes buried in the beach and even extending into the deep sea. April 28, 2008

9. In Ma’anshan, Anhui province (安徽马鞍山), along the Yangtze River there are many small-scaled Iron selection factories and plastic processing plants. Large amounts of sewage discharged into the Yangtze River June 18, 2009

10. In Inner Mongolia there were 2 “black dragons” from the Lasengmiao Power Plant (内蒙古拉僧庙发电厂) covering the nearby villages. July 26, 2005

11. Jiangsu province Changshu City Fluorine Chemical industry land sewage treatment plant (江苏省常熟市氟化学工业园污水处理厂) was responsible for collection and processing of the industrial sewage. However they did not, the sewage pipe was extended 1500 meters under the Yangtze River and releasing the sewage there. 2009 June 11

12. Soil by Yangtze River, was polluted by Anhui Province Ma’anshan Chemical Industrial District (安徽省马鞍山化工园区). June 26, 2009

13. Large amount of the industrial wastewater flowed to Yellow River from Inner Mongolia Lasengmiao Industrial District (内蒙古拉僧庙工业园区) every day. July 26, 2005

17. Longmen town in Hanchen city, Shaanxi Province (陕西省韩城市龙门镇) has large-scaled industrial development. Environment is very seriously polluted there. April 8, 2008

18. There are over 100 chemical plants in Jiangsu province coastal industry district. (江苏滨海头罾沿海化工园区) Some of them discharge wastewater into the ocean; some heavily contaminated sewage is stored in 5 “Sewage Temporary Pools”. During the 2 high tides in every month, the sewage then gets discharged into the ocean with the tides. June 20, 2008

19. Jiangxi Province Hu Ko County Chemical Industry district (江西省胡口县化工园区) is by the Yangtze River. Chemical factory landfill the Yangtze River bank to expand the scale of the factory without authorization.

20. Anhui Province Cihu Chemical Industry District (安徽省慈湖化工园区) built a underground pipe to discharge wastewater into the Yangtze River. The wastewater sometimes is black, gray, dark red, or yellow, wastewater from different chemical factories has different colors. June 18, 2009

21. Shanxi Province is the most polluted areas of China. It is also the province with the highest rate of birth defects. This loving farmer couple adopted 17 disabled children. April 15, 2009

23. 15-year-old boy from Tianshui, Gansu Province (甘肃天水), dropped out of the school after 2^nd grade, followed his parents to Heilonggui (黑龙贵) Industrial District. He earns 16 yuan a day. April 8, 2005

24. Inner Mongolia province Heilonggui (黑龙贵) Industrial District, the couple who worked at the Plaster Kiln and just got home. March 22, 2007

25. Villagers from Kang village in Linfen City, Shanxi Province (山西省临汾市下康村) due to long-term consumption of the polluted water contaminated by industrial waste, there were 50 people who have cancer and cerebral thrombosis. 64-year-old Wang Baosheng got ill since 2003, he has fester all over his body so he cannot go to bed and lying face down on the edge of the bed each day. July 10, 2005

26. Breathing in large amount of dust into the lungs, people gets sick after working there for 1-2 years. Most of these migrant workers come from area of poverty. April 10, 2005

27. Zhangqiao village by the Hong River in Wugang City, Henan Province (河南省舞钢市洪河边的张桥村), a 45-year-old woman Sun Xiaojun (孙晓军) could not move her feet and hands since 4 years ago. The numerous hospital treatments were not effective. April 7, 2009

Zhaozhuang village by the Hong River in Wugang City, Henan province (河南省舞钢市洪河边的赵庄村), 66-year-old Zhao Bingkun suffering from esophageal cancer since 2004, after the second surgery, treatment cost already have reached over 200,000 yuan. His condition is in late stage, he is having fever everyday, waiting for death. April 7, 2009

29. Zhaozhuang village by the Hong River in Wugang City, Henan province (洪河边的河南省西平县张于庄村), Gao Wanshun’s (高万顺) wife died of cancer. Now he lives in poverty. April 3, 2009

30. Linfen City in Shanxi province (山西临汾市) is seriously polluted area. Farmers after working in the cotton fields for 2 hours are filled with coal ashes. September 24 2007

31. Salt factory worker in Lianyungang, Jiangsu province (江苏连云港) said angrily, “when the wind blowing towards our side, the foul smell from the chemical factories is unbearable. There is even more poison gas at night.” July 19, 2008

32. People form Fanjiazhuang (范家庄) are ready to submit a complain filled with their fingerprints, to seek compensation for pollution damages. March 19, 2008

33. In Shanxi Province there are a lot of charitable nursing homes, to help disabled infants abandoned by their parents. April 14, 2009

Liujiawan village by the Hong River in Wugang City, Henan province (河南省舞钢市洪河边的刘家湾村), 13 year old Yang Xiao in November 2008 was ill with obscure disease.  She was saved by the donation of the villagers. When the grandmother saw the old village chief came to visit his granddaughter, she kneeled on the ground holding granddaughter’s hand. April 19, 2009

35. The oldest is 9, not going to school. The youngest is less than 2 years old. They lived in severely polluted area. They hands and faces were always dirty. April 10, 2005

36. Mazhuang village by the Hong River in Wugang City, Henan province, (河南省舞钢市洪河边的马庄村) 58-year-old Ma Haipeng (马海朋) was suffering from stomach cancer since 2006 and could not work in the field. He must take medicine every day, otherwise it is too painful. April 6, 2009

37. Every year, a lot of deficiency babies in Shanxi Province were abandoned. Kong Zhenlan (孔贞兰) in Qi town (祁县) who was making a living by recycling trash adopted 25 abandoned children. April 14, 2009

38. Xuanwei (宣威) in Yunnan province is a cancer village. Every year there are more than 20 people die of cancer. 11-year-old student Xu Li (徐丽) is suffering from bone cancer. May 8, 2007

39. In Shexian Village, Hebei Province, (河北省涉县固新村) the existing cancer patients are more than 50 people and more than 20 cancer patients die each year. March 18, 2008

40.  Zhangyuzhuan village by the Hong River in Xiping county, Henan province, (河南省西平县洪河边的张于庄村) 22-year-old Zhu Xiaoyan (朱小燕) had a tumor in her stomach in 2007. She died after number of hospital treatments on July 2008. 4-year-old girl with her grandfather came to mother’s tomb. April 2009 2

Outside my office window I have two bird feeders that attract all kinds of birds. One is designed for small birds like yellow finches, and the other is for larger birds like cardinals and blue jays. The feeders also attract squirrels. In the past, before they invented squirrel-proof cages, I had an interesting time trying to keep them from cleaning us out of food.

The first time I saw a squirrel climb the pole to the feeder and eat to its heart's content, I knocked on the window to scare him away only to find him back two minutes later having a feast. Then, I came up with what I thought was an ingenious solution. I greased the bird feeder pole with cooking oil and the next time a squirrel tried to climb the pole, I smiled to myself as he gently slid to the ground. After three or four attempts, he scampered away, but of course, came back with a vengeance and quickly figured out how to climb the pole!

Squirrels are very persistent little creatures. They do whatever it takes to achieve their goal. When squirrel-proof cages finally became available, I was sure this new device would do the trick. And it did for several weeks. Time and again I'd watch the squirrel climb up to the feeder, try every which way to get at the food, and when he couldn't succeed, run off to a new yard. Then, one morning, as I sat in my office watching the birds, a squirrel ran to the pole, climbed to the top of the protected feeder, hung upside down above it, and gingerly shook the feeder until birdseed fell to the ground. Once he served himself enough food, he ran down the pole and sat below the feeder to enjoy his meal. That's when I decided that if he was that persistent (and clever), he deserved the darn food!

There are times in life when we set our sights on something that's deeply important to us yet, when we hit roadblocks, setbacks, or failure, we make a premature decision to give up. The message this week is simple - if you know in your heart that your goal is right, be persistent. Hang in there and be willing to do whatever it takes to make it happen. If one approach doesn't work, circle around the situation, and look for a new way of achieving your goal. To help you gain a fresh perspective, try this:

1. Imagine that you've already achieved the goal. Then, look back from this perspective and notice what you did. Don't over think your answers, just write down whatever comes to mind. You're looking for strategies or ideas that may not have occurred to you yet.

2. Imagine that you're just one step away from achieving success. From this perspective, ask yourself, "What one word best describes the step I need to take next?" Trust your subconscious to give you an answer and again, write down what comes to mind.

When I used this exercise with a friend who was ready to quit nursing school, the word that occurred to her was "tutor." When we explored this word further, she admitted that there was one class, in particular, that made her feel anxious and inadequate. This exercise helped her to see that she needed help to get through the class.

3. If someone offered you a thousand dollars to take three outrageous steps toward your goal, what three steps would you take? Again, don't over think or censor your answers. Just notice what comes to mind and write it down. Even though your answers may seem unrealistic, I've found that when clients answer this question, they often come up with ways to try a new approach.

Of course there are times when quitting is the right thing to do, but before you give up, make sure you discuss your situation with someone who believes in you. Do they see something you don't? Is there a step they suggest you take before you quit?

Finally, make sure that you're not giving up out of fear or frustration. It's not uncommon to be faced with the greatest challenges at the point when we're about to reach the finish line. Selamat Jarin! We come again with much to say about the happenings in this reality. At present, Mother Earth is poised to begin a second round in the preliminaries to an immense series of Earth changes. She has requested of us that we warn you of this fact and set up a way to have our Earth allies actually carry out the governmental changes long promised to the people of this world. The key to the current impasse is the major central banks on your world, especially the United States' Federal Reserve Bank. This bank and its major sisters have become the main stumbling block to the changes long promised to you. In this regard, we are working diligently with our Earth allies to resolve this issue. Banks on your world are mostly the creature of the powerful individuals and groups that maintain them. These groups need to be disassembled and replaced with more benign and helpful organizations. This we fully intend to do, considering what has failed to transpire over the past two weeks. The present moments in your history are to be filled with actions, not lame excuses for what has not been done.We are reassessing the limits of our interaction with our Earth allies. It is necessary to act, but only in a manner in consonance with what Heaven decrees and what our Earth allies are capable of. The point is that these new governments need to be effective on their own terms. What you are on the verge of is a prelude to our mass landings. Accordingly, we have instructed our Earth allies in great detail on the main priorities of these caretaker regimes. To further these ends we have put a great many liaisons and Earth-based individuals from our fleet and from Inner Earth among you. These personnel were mainly to act as co-players in what our Earth allies had decided among themselves to be the first acts of these temporary administrations. Now we are in meetings with our Earth allies to rectify swiftly what has delayed a number of initial acts. The time has come and gone for such actions. We are to set the stage quickly for dramatic moves that can alter whatever is preventing things from happening.

As we stated in previous messages, we need to coordinate any deeper interaction with our Earth allies with Heaven, and Lord Surea has decreed that such deeper involvement is permitted. We have also received full clarification concerning what we can now implement. We are therefore instructing our personnel on how to bring about the desired results. We have increased the sightings of our ships and brought more pressure to bear on the dark cabal regarding what is expected to occur. We are also negotiating with our Earth allies to establish action committees that are to do what is needed to move forward quickly on a number of fronts. You need the prosperity programs to be delivered, and we require the Farmers' Claims to be legally unblocked in order to set the stage for the downfall of a number of questionable regimes. The dark knows what instruments are required for this and we intend to deny them any success in blocking such essential actions. New currencies, new governments, and new financial policies are just the first critical events that require quick implementation.

Others are to follow that secure your freedom and liberty. You are to return to your sovereign status and be given the means to pursue your true destiny. We see a stopgap moment during which you regain your power and employ technologies that reestablish your claim to be Mother Earth's guardians. In this, you can also reclaim your global partnership with the many species of cetaceans that some of you have dastardly murdered. These magnificent Beings understand your plight and desire to remain in a state of forgiveness. We ask only that you immediately alter the laws and customs that have allowed this slaughter to continue. Make your peace with these Beings and then go hand in hand to a new understanding. Use their immense wisdom to change swiftly the very fragile state that Mother Earth and her ecosystems now find themselves in. Together, your presently withheld technologies and your maturing mindset can remedy a number of conditions that are present in the physical and ethereal grids that govern your reality.

The need to change the way your grids function is an essential first step for what is to follow. Your secret governments' technologies and ours are the means to quickly put to flight the dark and its machinations. Doing this can strengthen the preliminary construction of a new set of grids that is to be the basis of the creation of your new reality. The people of Agartha are quite ready to assist you in these vital matters. We have watched as your growing Light worker movement has formed across your globe in the past half century. Heaven sees this as the first step in what you are now to accomplish in the immediate present. This is a way to reunite you easily with your Inner Earth kin. Mother Earth intends to have all of you as her guardians. A new, revitalized ecosystem needs to be cared for; indeed, it is this sacred mission that put you on this planet nearly 900,000 years ago.

The events that are close to happening are the first steps in a series of actions that are to lead to first contact. Until now, while under the sway of the dark and its cronies, you were pressured to deny our existence for fear of being regarded as odd by your fellows. Now you are to get the respect you deserve. Use this to inform and prepare others for our arrival. We come to inform and mentor you as Heaven readies you to take on full consciousness. Mother Earth sincerely intends to move as fast as you allow as the division of Earth into two realms is no longer viable. Reuniting these two aspects of her has become urgent, and hence we need to accelerate those events that make it possible for you to resume your Creator-given role as a fully conscious, 5-D Being, or what can be termed a physical Angel.

This "new You" is a Being that fully comprehends the divine plan and works with great passion and joy to unfold it in physicality. We intend to re-infuse you with this heavenly wisdom. You are to combine this with the various lessons you have absorbed during your many lifetimes in this formerly dark veil of tears. In this new world of Light, you are to become the mentors for the four water worlds that you are to inhabit and guide. Several amazing experiences are to be yours as you come together to form your new star-nation. Star-nations form out of your sentient wisdom and the nature of those you have chosen to protect. When we come together as a Galactic Federation Council, all the immense wisdom present in this council is employed to progress and mentor this huge galaxy toward the Light.

You are nearly ready to accomplish this huge leap in consciousness along with its many responsibilities. Your reality is to shift you into something that you no longer quite remember. Your many myths and repressed histories tell of how you once were. It is this Being that is both your past and your destiny. We come to afford you a swift and easy method back to full consciousness. Around you, there is much disinformation about what this all means. The immense gap you are to leap would normally take a century or two. However, as you know, you do not have this time available to you. Heaven's dispensation gives you a gracious way to resolve this time crunch and the obstacles that lie before you.

Today, we went over some of what is occurring on your world and what we intend to do to resolve the obstacles that remain. Our fleet and Inner Earth are dedicated to bringing us all together. We intend, shortly, to have the means to permit the grand celebrations that we all richly deserve! Know, dear Ones, in your Heart of Hearts that the countless Supply and never-ending Prosperity of Heaven are indeed Yours! So Be It! Selamat Gajun! Selamat Ja! (Sirian for Be One! and Be in Joy!)
