Maine town becomes first to declare food sovereignty

{mainvote}

by Ethan A. Huff, staff writer

(NaturalNews) The town of Sedgwick, Maine, currently leads the pack as far as food sovereignty is concerned. Local residents recently voted unanimously at a town hall meeting to pass an ordinance that reinforces its citizens' God-given rights to "produce, process, sell, purchase, and consume local foods of their choosing," which includes even state- and federally-restricted foods like raw milk.

The declaration is one of the first of its kind to be passed in the US, and it is definitely not the last. Several other Maine towns -- including Penobscott, Brooksville, and Blue Hill -- all have similar ordinances up for vote in the coming weeks.

"Tears of joy welled in my eyes as my town voted to adopt this ordinance," said Mia Strong, a Sedgwick resident who frequents local farms. "I am so proud of my community. They made a stand for local food and our fundamental rights as citizens to choose that food."

In addition to simply declaring food sovereignty, the ordinance also declares it a crime for state and federal authorities to violate ordinance provisions in any way. The law specifically states that "[i]t shall be unlawful for any law or regulation adopted by the state or federal government to interfere with the rights recognized by this Ordinance." This includes, of course, any attempt to enforce the unconstitutional provisions of the S 510 the HR 2751 food tyranny bills that were recently passed (http://www.naturalnews.com/030789_F...).

And what about potential conflicts that may arise between farmer and patron? The two will agree to enter into private agreements with one another, apart from government interference, and settle any disputes that arise personally and civilly. It is the way things used to be done before Americans sacrificed their freedoms to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and other federal agencies that now tell the public what they can and cannot eat.

In December, the state of Vermont drafted its own food sovereignty bill (http://www.naturalnews.com/030827_f...), and several others are considering similar bills as well.

Barefoot in the Garden – Cindy McAsey

Hi Cindy,
I'm not sure here, so just to check: did you send me this story so I could redistribute it? Because even though it is addressed at a mail address which no one knows is related to me, and my mail program flags it as junk mail, it is absolutely the kind of story I could use on my weblog. But I've just learned that all these mechanisms like spam, viruses, scams, etc. are just that: mechanisms to get the word out.
So yes, I'll gladly post it, and it bears no copyrigh or anything, so I safely could right? Also it is in a private E-mail to myself, so I can safely quote since you didn't tell me it requires restriction.....
But just know I saw through the 'scam': I never subscribed to veremail from admin@nothere.nl simply because at that moment, I did not own the domain nothere.nl!  But thanks for the very appropriate confirmation that I'm on the right track.
Love your Light,
Dré

As you study the meaning of this short story you will discover even though Maggie is a grown woman her mother is still teaching her lessons.

Maggie describes her 84-year-old mother as living on her own, by herself, in a small town in Vermont. She has 3 grown kids (including Maggie)who live in the same town. At least once a day, at least one of the kids checks in on her. One day in the late fall she was walking down her long gravel driveway to her mailbox. On her way back to the house, she stumbled, fell into the ditch and broke her hip. She lay there for four and a half hours before Maggie stopped by on her way home from work and found her. She called 911 and got her to the hospital.

The next morning Maggie was visiting her in the hospital and this is the conversation she described. She said to her mother, "Mom, weren't you scared laying there with a broken hip for four and a half hours? She said, "Not at all. I knew one of you kids would be by." Then Maggie said, "Well, you must have been in an awful lot of pain!" Her mom said, "Maggie, when I fell, I landed right in this pile of leaves, and they smelled sooooo good!"

Finally Maggie said, "Well, you must have been freezing because all you had on was a light sweater!" She responded, "You know, every once in awhile the sun would come out from behind a cloud and I don't think I've ever appreciated sunshine as much as I did yesterday." There was nothing he could say that would bring her down. Do you think that is because she "felt" that way? Or do you think that is because that is the way she decided to live her life? It's all about the choices we make every day of our lives.

Most people decide how they are based upon the circumstances - based upon their feelings at the time. One of the most important lessons that I've learned is that the feelings follow the behavior, not the other way around. Every day we get to choose our attitude by how we choose to behave. It's very difficult to behave one way and feel another. So choose a positive attitude, regardless of the circumstances.

If you wait for everything in your life to line up perfectly so you can have a positive attitude... your job, your business, your spouse, your teenage kids - you will never have a positive attitude. What do you think is more attractive in life, business or relationships? a positive attitude or a negative attitude? Which do you think will attract more success in your life? Which do you think will attract more abundance? Which do you think will attract more people that you want to be around and want to be around you?

The next time you hear someone say, "I'm doing pretty well under the circumstances." why don't you ask them, "Well, what are you doing under there anyway?"

I know some of you are thinking, "Well, if you had everything going on in your life that I have going on in mine, you wouldn't be enthusiastic and positive either." Then you miss the point.

Attitude is a choice.

It is 5% what happens to you and 95% how you choose to respond.
